These are my maps of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The
base imagery comes from approximately five-thousand aerial screencaps from
Steve M's Map Viewer software that were then meticulously
stitched together using both scripts and a lot of manual work. Data
layers were mostly plotted from the game data itself, so the information
is generally pretty accurate.
All images are at 1-meter resolution. The entire map is 6,000 meters on a
side (over 3.7 miles). This map was reduced from a 1.2 gigapixel version to
reduce aliasing ("jaggies").
Warning: These are BIG images. You'll probably want to
right-click and save the images to your hard drive and then view them with
an external graphics program, like Photoshop. Some web browsers will have
difficulty displaying such large images.
Version 1.00, September 5th, 2005.
A few other things.
- Some of the images are darkened to show markers in greater relief.
- Weapons are definitely approximated. Stuff you unlock later in the
game through missions will probably not be on here. There may be a few
phantom weapons that aren't actually there due to the way the game stores
the world and building interiors in the same physical space. Some day in
the idealized future I'd like to go through and personally verify each
item, but who knows when/if that'll happen.
- Water lines are approximate. The map viewer software does not
currently render water, so I had to draw it in by hand. It's pretty
accurate, but the shores may not be precisely where I put them. I hope to
improve this some day.
- I didn't create the radar map mod. I didn't
create it. I. Didn't. Create it. Someone else did. They took my map
image (with my blessing), converted it into textures, and packaged it up
for folks to use. But I didn't create that. There are issues with
getting it to work. I think you need to rebuild the archive when you're
done replacing textures or something. But I'm not the person to ask these
things of. I create images, not mods.
- No, you can't have the 1.2 Gpixel version. It doesn't exist as a
single image. And unless you're printing the map on the side of a
building you don't need that kind of resolution. The image on this page
is more than enough to print on the largest home printers.
- Check GameFAQs if
you need help finding something. Please don't ask me how to find oyster
number 37 or whatever. I won't remember and won't respond. Sorry.
- Lastly, special thanks to Steve M. for helping me get this map going!
